WORKSHOP: Distracted driving has been identified as a modern epidemic by safety organizations world-wide. The scientific community has produced indisputable proof that driving while distracted decreases performance and increases the likelihood of involvement in an accident. Companies are managing distracted driving through the use of mobile technology and policies banning the use of, or access to, mobile device distractions. Telecommunications companies (Cellular providers) are developing technology to help restrict the use of mobile devices while being used in moving vehicles, as well as globally campaigning against the use while driving. Federal, state and local legislators and industry associations, like NWRA, are passing and enforcing laws to prevent distracted driving - for example, Slow Down to Get Around. Join this interactive working session to help build out solutions to the distracted driving epidemic, where attendees will break off into teams to discuss steps for improvement, management routines, company policies, use of technology, and community engagement.
